Anonymity – making a complaint

Our neighbours have been causing us problems. We don’t wish to fall out with them but something has to be done. We are both elderly and any confrontation would be difficult for us. What are our options?

Your local authority can investigate. You will remain anonymous up to a point (which may be sufficient to ensure that the problem is addressed). They usually write to the perpetrator first (and in many cases this will solve the problem). If the matter got to the stage where court proceedings were necessary it may be required that more detail is disclosed. Ultimately, resolving neighbour issues may require someone to ‘put their head above the parapet’. Complaints very rarely result in any confrontation and most are resolved before it gets to this stage.
