Noise – A Guide to Sound Living

Noise – A Guide to Sound Living

In this post we have picked out a couple of videos from sound supremo Julian Treasure. They are a little bit old now but we think are still worth sharing with you as an introduction to building a better sound environment.

In the first video Julian outlines the Four Ways that Sound affects Us:

1. Physiological – noise affects your breathing, heartrate and brain waves
2. Phschological – sound affects your emotions
3. Cognitive – noise can affect your productivity
4. Behavioural – unpleasant sounds equals hostile environment

In the second video Julian outlines the affect that noise has on our health. He states that 16 million poeple in Europe have their sleep disrupted by nois; which kills 200,000 people a year. He explains why soundscape design is so important.
